IM A VETERAN

You may not know me the time we meet ,

I’m just another you see on the street ,

But I am the reason you walk and breath free ,

I am the reason to your liberty .

I AM A VETERAN

I work in the local factory all day

I own the restaurant just down the way

I sell you insurance just down the way ,

I star your IV .

And have the best looking grandchildren

You ever did see .

I’m your grocer , backer, teacher , I’m your plumber

I’m your plumber , barber , your family preacher ,

But there is part of me you don’t know very well

I’m A VETERAN

I joined the service while still in my teens

I traded my prom dress

For camaufloge green ,

I’m thr first in the family to do something

Like this , I followed my father like he followed his ,

Defying my fears , and hiding my doubt ,

I married my sweetheart befor I shipped out ,

I missed Christmas and then Easter , the birth

Of my son , but I know I was doing what had to be done ,

I served on the battlefield, served on the base

I took care of the wounded , and begged God’s grace

I gave orders to fire , and followed command , I marched

Into conflict in different land .

In the jungle , desert , in mountain and shore

In bunkers and tents , on dank ground floors ,

While I fought on the ground, in the air , on the sea ,

My family and friends were hom praying for me .

For the land of the free and home of the brave , I

Faced my demons in foxholes and caves , Then

One dreaded day , without drummers of life , I lost

A arm my friend lost his life .

I cam home and moved on , but was forever changed

The perils of war lodged in my memory ,I don’t really

Say much , I don’t feel like I can , I left home a child and

Came back a man . There are thousands like me , tousand

Gone , but there legacy lives as time marches on , white crosses

In a row , and names signed in gulue , reminds us what these brave

Souls had to do .

I’m part of a fellowship, a strong mighty band , of each man

And women who has served this great land .

And when Ole Glory waves , I stand proud and tall , I help

Keep her flying for you and all .
