A Poor Father and His Sons

A long time ago, a poor man lived in a village in England. He used to stay in a small house with his wife and two sons. He had no work. So, he used to go to the nearest town in search of work. But he failed to earn a single penny for a few months. So, their situation had become worse than before.

He decided to exchange something from his house and get some food. So, he started to sell something every day and used that money to survive for a few days. But their condition was not improving. Everyone in the house was sad to see their condition.

One day, the man found nothing else to exchange. So he decided to sell his sons to a rich man and get some money. He talked to his wife about this. “We have no other option but to sell our sons to survive,” he said to his wife. But the thought of giving up their sons made them shiver from inside. So, he finally changed his mind and tried to find something else to sell. “Here are some of my clothes. You can sell them and get some money.”, the poor man’s wife told him. The money he got from selling the clothes lasted for a very short time.

Finally, one day, the man decided to sell his sons and get some money in return. So, he took them to the town. Both boys were too scared to go there. They were shivering in fear, but they said nothing and kept on walking. The poor man had nothing else to do. He knew he had lost all his hope.

On their way to the town, they came to a jungle. When they were crossing the jungle, they suddenly heard a scream of a man who was drowning in the river. Though he was calling for help, no one could hear him before. Seeing this, both brothers gathered some tree roots and stems and helped the man get support. The man was very happy and grateful to the boys for saving his life.

Later, he learned about the miserable condition of the boys’ family. Feeling bad, he offered a lot of money to the boys. Since he was the king of the nearby town, he also offered a job to the father in his court. “I hope this job will help you to survive this miserable situation,” he said.

Now, the poor man was so happy. But he was equally guilty that he tried to sell the sons who became the reasons for him to come out of poverty. At last, the poor father understood that we should never stop finding solutions to a problem.

Moral of the Story

Every problem has a solution.

Summary of the Story

Every Cloud Has a Silver Lining, this story’s summary can teach kids that “no matter what the problem is, there is a solution to everything. All we need to do is be patient and keep working until it gets solved.” The father who wanted to get rid of his sons to survive, ends up being protected by his sons.

So, it is important to focus on trying to find out the solutions rather than crying over the problems. It is only possible if you have a positive outlook on life.
